Big order for the Clyde Bergemann Power Group in the U.S.A

The American utility NRG Energy Inc. considers the company to be the right technical partner to equip six coal-fired power stations with air pollution control systems to reduce emissions.

Wesel/Germany, June 2007
US-based Clyde Bergemann EEC has been authorised by NRG Energy to proceed with the engineering and procurement for the new state-of-the-art systems. Clyde Bergemann EEC (CBEEC) is part of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group Americas, a organisational unit of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group serving the markets in North and South America. CBEEC is specialising in the development and production of innovative air pollution control systems for power stations und industrial boilers.

NRG Energy receives for the plant sites Huntley and Dunkirk a coordinated solution of air pollution control and ash handling. The scope of delivery comprises ten modules, consisting of Pulse Jet Fabric Filters, ash handling systems, ID fans as well as Trona and carbon dry sorbent injection systems. This combination ensures the removal of ash as well as other harmful substances like sulfur dioxide and mercury. The ash handling system, tried and tested by numerous European and Asian power companies, will be provided by another business unit of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group. These systems are based on Clyde Bergemann’s dense phase technology. Compared to the still going strong use of the lean phase technology in the U.S.A., this kind of ash removal offers technical advantages and lower total cost of ownership. The commissioning of the modules takes place between 2009 and 2010.

This project is one of the largest orders CBEEC has received so far since the solutions provider of air pollution control systems was acquired by the Clyde Bergemann Power Group in 2005.
“We have been working with NRG Energy already successfully for several years in modernizing the boiler cleaning systems of their plants and are excited that we can support this utility now also on the air pollution control side”, comments Hans Schwade, Vice President & COO of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group and person in charge of Clyde Bergemann Americas.Franz Bartels, President & CEO of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group, adds: “This success confirms our strategy to increase customers’ benefits by combining innovative and efficient systems and solutions along the value-added chain of boilers. Clyde Bergemann merges single products to a comprehensive total solution at an one-stop shopping approach. From placing to commissioning, our customer avoids interfaces and costs.”
