The boiler cleanliness demands faced by today’s boiler owners require a new solution for sootblowing. Operators are facing higher slagging/fouling rates due to fuel variability, increased load and the like. Trying to control this fouling with old technology often results in over consumption of the sootblowing media and excessive erosion of boiler tube surfaces. In many plants, the experience results in a minimal improvement in heat transfer rate and a large increase in operating and maintenance costs. Eventually these increased costs become accepted as regular budgeted expenses and are accepted as necessary for operation of the boiler.
Intelligent Sooblowing Systems (ISB) are proving to to be highly effective solutions, Unfortunately, many boilers are unable to outlay the capital required to install a full ISB system. Clyde Bergemann’s Mulitmode sootblowing application is the solution.
Problem: Heat Rate reduced by excessive fouling/slagging:
Soultion: A Targeted Sootblowing application can clean on demand. It can be programmed to clean in the specifc zone experiencing fouling. This on demand cleaning will increase runtime by controllling slagging and eliminating klinkers.
Problem: Tube erosion from excessive cleaning.
Solution: By use of the Variable Speed and Variable Helix along with Zone Based Cleaning the SmartUS/RS sootblower can speed up through areas that require less aggressive cleaning thereby minimizing erosion on tube surface.
Problem: excessive media consumption:
Typical Sootblowing applications use steam or air medium for the boiler on-load cleaning. The media consumption consumed is a considerable part of plant's operating cost. Effective sootblowing via a SmartUS/RS sootblower can reduce the media consumption. Sootblowing nozzle's speed control along with the media flow adjustments allow an effective sootblowing. These customized control modes provides the 'focused' cleaning methods where it needed. The system also monitors to keep the minimum media flow for lance tube cooling.
Problem: ISB is too costly to install:
Solution: Easy Integration: A Targeted sootblowing is a stand-alone application. Individual SmartUS/RS sootblowers can be installed at the high demand locations on the boiler. Stand-alone controls can seamlessly integrated with existing control system without any change in control system. All existing field wiring remains intact. Only few cables from Blower junction box to the Targeted Sootblowing integrated control box needs to be installed if control is mounted away from the blower.
Problem: Modern Cleaning Systems are mechanically unproven
Solution: Smart RS/US Sootblower. Clyde Bergemann has taken its US/RS sootblower platform and integrated a Targeted control system into the package. This is the best of both worlds - a proven mechanical platform – with thousands of units installed worldwide in many applications.
