Rake Sootblowers
Cleaning Principle
RKT/UST Rake Type

The RKT/UST Sootblower is a rake type sootblower designed for the cleaning of finned heating surfaces, economizers, tubular or rotating basket type air heaters. The Rake Sootblower uses most efficiently the potential energy in the blowing medium (steam or air) and transforms it almost completely into kinetic energy by means of venturii nozzles. The result is the best cleaning effect possible. The Model RKT and UST Rake Type sootblower uses the Model RKS and US as their base respectively with one critical exception. They use a specially configured non-rotating lance to apply all cleaning power down towards the air preheater basket surface, this enables the blowers to effectively re-entrain solid particulate as well as reduce pressure loss across those surfaces. It shares all its benefits and features with the Model RKS:

  • balanced and symmetrical drive system: the carriage which drives the lance of the sootblower into the boiler is positioned in the exact center of the canopy. By balancing the forces acting on the sootblower, wear and tear on the whole system is reduced over all competitive imbalanced designs
  • modular carriage: the carriage consists of a lower and upper part with the gearbox and the lance hub separated. This reduces heat damage to the gearbox oil, reducing oil leaks. It also makes long-term repairs a relative breeze: it takes about 30 minutes to replace a gearbox on the sootblower - about one day for competitive designs! And you don't need to remove the lance or feed tube
  • adjustable sootblower pressure control: all our sootblowers give operators the ability to change pressures at the sootbower while the sootblower is running

The blowing element of the rake sootblower consists of a central tube and one or several cross tubes equipped with venturii nozzles. In the case of the rotary basket rake blower the rake tube runs parallel with the lance tube. The blowing jets leaving the nozzles are directed parallel to the tubes and, therefore, provide the optimum cleaning of the narrow tube lanes and gaps between the individual fins. The axially arranged blowing rake is moveable in the flue gas pass and remains in there during wait time between cycles. The rear end of the central tube is connected to a lance tube that is inserted into the flue gas pass, and then returned to its initial position by means by the gear-motor driven carriage.

RKTT Dual Medium Rake Sootblower

The RKTT dual medium cleaner is a specifically designed multi-function rake blower for Air Preheater duty.  A multi purpose nozzle design allows for three modes of operation namely (1) Steam/Air (2) Low-Pressure Water (3) High Pressure Water.  The normal mode of operation is using High Pressure Steam.  Low and High Pressure Waters are used when operationally required.Steam or air is used for this on line cleaning.  Low pressure water could also be delivered through the element nozzles for basket washing.

The RKTT is different to the RKT in that it has the ability to supply a third cleaning medium, high pressure water. The RKTT is used in more sever cleaning applications such as those found following and SCR or SNCR installation where this high pressure water is required to remove sticky deposits. In addition to removing these sticky deposits the RKTT cleaner can be used to eliminate or minimize the need for off line water washing.
