Water Cannons
Cleaning Principle
Description

This is the most revolutionary cleaning technology, introduced in 1988, pioneered, developed, and refined for the North American market with the arrival of the water cannon, this technology has displaced conventional wall blowers or water lances as the best available technology for furnace cleaning performance.

The latest generation of water cannon technology is able to outperform any other furnace cleaning method available today. Using the principle of cross-furnace cleaning where a robotically controlled water jet is transmitted across the firebox to the opposite or adjacent walls, it efficiently and cost-effectively can clean up to 90% of the furnace water walls. Only four units are needed for most standard boiler geometries. Conventional wallblower systems typically achieve less than 20%, with water lance systems less than 40%.

The Clyde Bergemann water cannon uses the most severe-duty and advanced position control system available. Power servo-motor driven x and y axes control the lance position precisely, while lance-mounted absolute positioning resolvers determine the exact location of the lance independently eliminating targeting errors. Specially designed aluminum profile interlocking frames house all components securely, eliminating opportunity for ash and coal dust in the mechanism.

Benefits

The installation of this technology on existing boilers can:

Reduce NOx by 5% - 15%
Reduce FEGT by 20F - 200F
Reduce stack temperatures by 10F - 45F
Save tens of thousands of maintenance costs for the old system
Increase unit efficiency by 0.5% - 2%
As a result of the above, a water cannon system can provide a return on investment to its owner in the range of weeks rather than years. Clyde Bergemann has provided these benefits to over 70 boiler owners in North America and over 200 more overseas.
